The Upanishads are the lesser known of the Indian scriptures and provide philosophical and spiritual insight into the big questions about life shared by enlightened sages. The Upanishads are part of a larger group of texts known as the Vedas and signify the conclusion or end of the revered texts.
Upanishads is defined as “sitting at the foot of” or “sitting down near” as these teachings were originally passed on orally from guru to committed student who sat at their feet, ready to receive the sacred information. These teachings explore how every individual is one with the creative power of the universe by examining Upanishads. Each Upanishad represents a sage’s experience of ancient philosophy.
Eknath’s Easwaran’s translation of the Upanishad will be used as the study guide. Eknath was a gifted scholar who was able to pass along the teachings of Indian scriptures from a simple and modern perspective.
