Jill began practicing yoga in 2001 as a way to make peace with her body after the birth of her second child. In 2005 she discovered the teachings of Goswami Kriyananda and the Temple of Kriya Yoga and began her spiritual journey as a not just a mother, but a mystic. While still in training, she began teaching at Bethany Hall, a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. In 2008, this work inspired her to open Uttara Yoga Studio in Roanoke, VA, with the vision to create a safe and sacred space to share the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the practice. The Uttara community has blossomed beyond her dreams into a diverse group of yoga practitioners and seekers.
Jill teaches yogis of all ages and has brought the practice to local preschools; elementary, middle, and high schools; as well as a number of local colleges and universities. She is a Barratt Breath Institute individual and group Restorative Breathwork practitioner. In addition to yoga classes and training yoga teachers, she leads workshops and trainings on meditation, breathwork, life transformation, and astrology. She has led yoga retreats in India, Peru and Germany, and is looking forward to taking groups to India in March of 2021 and to Italy in May of 2021.
She is a practicing astrologer and is Adjunct Faculty at Roanoke College. She has been the area coordinator for Seven Springs Farm, a local organic cooperative farm, since 2002. Her latest venture is Moon Sister Sessions, a podcast with a modern twist on astrology and the spiritual search. She is currently enrolled in the Seminary at the Temple of Kriya Yoga.
