Saturdays 12:30 to 5:30 pm; Sundays 12:00 to 3:00 pm
The great Mystical Traditions of the East have long spoken about the power of the breath to rejuvenate and transform our lives. These ancient cultures had a deep appreciation for the breath’s healing potential, utilizing it as a means of facilitating wellness and self-development. Barratt Breathwork is a unique methodology, combining hatha yoga, Eastern breathing practices and meditation to provide a comprehensive system for deep personal transformation and spiritual growth. This program is specifically tailored for small groups to support deep inner work.
Note: This program is intended both for individuals seeking personal and spiritual development, as well as for healthcare professionals, yoga teachers, and other body/mind practitioners seeking to integrate Barratt Breathwork into their profession. Participants must commit to all three weekends; program fee $325. |

Kathleen Barratt grew up in Austin Texas, where she cultivated an appreciation of new ideas and the synergies created when diverse cultures come together. In 1987, Kathleen left Austin to study with Native American elders in Texas, New Mexico, and New York. Her adventures led her to Virginia Beach where she became a dedicated student of the Edgar Cayce Readings on meditation among other systems of personal and spiritual development.
In the early 1980s, Kathleen developed an interest in breathwork as a dynamic tool for healing and personal transformation. She trained in popular breathwork methods that utilize hyperventilation and extreme physical catharsis. Recognizing the drama and rigors of hyperventilation, however, she began to create a subtler approach to breathwork – one based on the techniques of “Bioenergy”, a subtle energy healing art developed by Mietek and Margaret Wirkus. Kathleen has over 20 years professional experience in facilitating and teaching Breathwork and Bioenergy, receiving her Master’s Certificate in Bioenergy in 2009.
Kathleen established the Barratt Breathworks Institute in 1994, offering both personal and professional trainings in the Barratt Breathwork Method. Today, the Barratt Breathworks Institute synthesizes studies in Breathwork, Meditation and Bioenergy, resulting in a professional methodology that transcends time, culture and tradition. |

Saturday, March 9, 1:00-3:00 pm
-- The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is referred to as “Yoga Chikitsa” which means yoga therapy. It consists of a time-tested set of postures which cleanse and tone the body, mind, and senses through a focus on alignment in asana (postures), the use of the Ujjayi breath, bandhas (energy locks), vinyasa (flow), and drishti (gaze point). Commitment to a consistent practice helps to remove physical and energetic blockages, allowing prana (energy) to flow more freely and ensuring efficient and healthy function of body and mind.
The Primary Series focuses on forward bending, righting the imbalances in the back body—legs, pelvis, and low back—which seem to be such a problem area for so many of us and where old karmic issues seem to reside. In our weekly classes we have mixed levels of students and are unable to explore all the postures of the practice; come and experience the full flow including sun salutations, standing postures, Primary Series, closing sequence, and Savasana. It is an athletic and fast-paced practice recommended for an intermediate practitioner who has experience with the practice, having previously attended weekly classes or by approval of the instructor. Fee $20, please pre-register. |
